South West Business Expo
I visited the south west business expo in Swindon, Wiltshire last month. This was a very well organised event, with some great guest speakers lined up.
The breakout sessions included the BBC apprentice finalist Neil Clough, and the founder of 4Networking Brad Burton. I had not come across Brad Burton prior to this event, but would thoroughly recommend anyone who gets the chance to hear him speak, to do so as he is thoroughly entertaining and a great straight talking motivational speaker.
The event was made up of a number of small businesses who were from the Swindon and Wiltshire area. Each business had a stand to display their wares, using a range of tactics to attract potential customers, whether this was running competitions, free give-aways or whatever else the businesses concerned could think of to attract footfall!
Speed Networking
I attended a speed networking session that was run during the day. Having never attended a speed networking event I didn’t know what to expect, but was told that it was the business equivalent of speed dating, this didn’t help me much as I have never attended a speed networking event either!
A total of 40 people attended the session which was made up of a range of businesses from Accountants through to Art Galleries. The group was split evenly into 2 lines so that each individual was facing another, and was allowed 1 minute to talk to the person they were facing, the other person was then allowed a minute to speak. Then, the row of people opposite from me had to move along one place before swapping pitches with the next individual. This continued until all of the business people who attended the session had spoken to a total of 20 people.

During my 1 minute pitch, I explained that Integrity Pensions and Investments are a firm of Independent Chartered Financial planners who work with both Businesses and Individuals and are able to offer a range of financial solutions, so if they were looking for a financial adviser Swindon, then we would certainly be able to help. This seemed to be well received as I have already been contacted by a couple of the people who I met, wanting to discuss their pension situation further.
